Who is Timothy Zachery Mosley?

Timothy Zachery Mosley, better known as Timbaland, is an American record producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and record executive. He has received widespread acclaim for his innovative production work and distinctive "stuttering" rhythmic style.
In 2007, "The New York Times" called him "one of the most influential producers of the last 20 years". In 2012, MTV claimed "Timbaland has produced more hits than any other hip-hop producer."

He is credited as a key figure in the popularization of rap music and hip hop music, and is one of the producers who helped bring rap to its commercial and cultural peak. Early life & Career

Timbaland was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Barbara and Melvin Stewart. He grew up in an active musical household. His father was a jazz musician and his mother was a singer. His brother, Sebastian (B. J.), is three years his junior. Growing up, Timbaland spent much of his time in local youth participating in both music and sports.

He attended the High School of Performing Arts (Fame) in New York City and became proficient at playing the trumpet, drums, and guitar as well as designing sets for school plays and directing them for some of his fellow students' performances. He also played baseball for two years with the Norfolk Red Birds when he was 16 years old. At that time his mother and brother were living in Atlanta, Georgia. He also played the trumpet in his high school band.

In the mid 1980s, Timbaland and his family returned to New York City. After a brief period of living in his parents' home, Timbaland moved to Mt. Vernon., New York where he began attending Mt. Vernon High School with a new focus on his music career as opposed to sports. While attending high school, he began to develop an interest in the burgeoning hip-hop scene that was developing around him, especially after becoming friends with fellow musician Mark Sparks (later known as Magoo). He met producer Matt Dike from Columbia Records who gave Timbaland a tape of some beats he had done. He immediately took the tape to his friend Mark Sparks's house and played the beats over the phone. From there he started doing work for some local artists and producers such as DJ Jazzy Jay, Tuff Crew, and New York producer Mario Winans.
